Question 22 - we asked:

Park Road North is used by many cyclists wanting to access North Road and the C2C route from the A167 Great North Cycle Route (GNC). Park Road North has cycle lanes on both carriageways but these frequently have cars parked in them forcing cyclists out into the road. What would be your vision for making this area safer for people cycling?

We asked this question only in North Lodge.

I would be in favour of making it a traffic offence to block cycle lanes. Momentary parking for deliveries is acceptable, but longer than that is unnecessary. There's a lot of off-road parking available on Park Road North for householders - but I know that it is sometimes used by visitors to the riverside park, to avoid parking charges. I have stated in my election leaflets that I am in favour of free parking through Chester-le-Street, which would make this unnecessary.
