Question 24 - we asked:

Over the last year a Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan (LCWIP) has been prepared for Newton Aycliffe by consultants working for the County Council. This will set out the improvements that are needed to enable people to walk and cycle their journeys around the town. Will you commit to working to get a good proportion of this plan implemented during your term of office?

We asked this question in these 3 divisions: Aycliffe East, Aycliffe North and Middridge, Aycliffe West.

4 of the candidates responded as below.

Those candidate(s) which were elected are highlighted.

George Coulson GRAY
(Independent)

I informed you that in 2005 to 2008 I was involved in the cycle track from the 167road Traffic light to Saint Cuthbert's way and it ends at the round about at the Town centre, If my memory serves me right,
Where I live I see more Cyclists riding on the Path than on the road,
I also Know of the new cycle lane on the side of the 167 road from the blacksmith arms to Aycliffe village,

John Douglas MOORE
(Independent)

I will commit to working toward the implementation of the detail contained in the LCWIP.
With regard to the pathways I feel its very important that they are returned to their original width. The current method of dousing the overgrown areas with weed killer is not satisfactory. This turns footpaths into mud paths.

Ken ROBSON
(Independent)

I would certainly welcome the opportunity to get involved

Jed HILLARY
(Labour Party)

Yes, of course. However, I would expect significantly more to be delivered in Aycliffe given it's one of the largest conurbations in the County and therefore has more cyclists.
